In the story
Erin becomes the central survivor figure in the remake. Her attempts to find help and recover her companions lead her through a network of locations controlled by the Hewitts and Sheriff Hoyt.
Continuity matters
A remake, not a sequel to the original film’s events. The 2006 film is its prequel; Thomas Hewitt belongs to this continuity rather than being a universal name for every Leatherface.
