Finding the station
The location has been known as Hills Prairie Grocery, Bilbo’s Texas Landmark, and more recently as the Gas Station. It sits off Highway 304 in Bastrop County, a few miles south of Highway 71.
Across the road is a cemetery, although it is not the graveyard used in the opening of the film. The original gas pumps visible in older photographs have since been removed.

Inside the barbecue shack
The film action took place largely in the side room rather than the main customer area. A door between the two sections was later marked “Employees Only.”
The room’s windows, counters, walls, and sight lines make it possible to compare surviving photographs directly with the scenes featuring the Cook and Sally.

Road and rear views
The road in front of the pumps supplied the view used when the van arrives and later leaves the station. Photographs from behind the building document another part of the property rarely visible in the finished film.
