Tobe Hooper directed and co-wrote The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Its raw photography, sound design, relentless pacing, and documentary texture changed independent horror filmmaking. He later directed The Funhouse, Poltergeist, Lifeforce, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

Kim Henkel co-wrote the original film with Tobe Hooper and helped shape its strange family dynamics, Texas setting, and dark humor. He later wrote and directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and continued working in independent film.

Gunnar Hansen created the original screen performance of Leatherface, building the character through physical movement, observation, and several distinct masks. Beyond acting, Hansen was an author, teacher, documentary filmmaker, and a beloved presence in horror culture.

Marilyn Burns delivered the film's punishing central performance as Sally Hardesty. Her physical commitment and sustained terror helped define the modern survivor figure in horror. She later appeared in Eaten Alive, Future-Kill, and Texas Chainsaw 3D.

Edwin Neal played the Hitchhiker with volatile humor and menace, setting the group's nightmare in motion during the van sequence. His later career has included film, television, stage work, and extensive voice acting.

Teri McMinn played Pam and appears in two of the film's most enduring images: the approach toward the family house and the meat-hook sequence. She remains closely connected with fans through appearances and convention events.

Paul A. Partain portrayed Franklin Hardesty, giving the group a difficult, vulnerable, and sharply human presence. His anxious performance adds friction to the early road scenes and makes Franklin's death one of the film's most abrupt shocks.

John Dugan played Grandpa under an extensive aging makeup designed for the dinner sequence. Although he was a young actor during production, the makeup, physical stillness, and final hammer scene created one of the film's strangest characters.

Jim Siedow played the Cook, later identified as Drayton Sawyer. His performance shifts between hospitality, panic, cruelty, and exhausted authority. He returned to the role in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

William Vail portrayed Kirk, the first member of the group to enter the family house. The sudden hammer strike and metal door slam that end his search remain among the most influential entrances in horror cinema.

Allen Danziger played Jerry, the van's driver and the group member who discovers Pam inside the freezer. He later moved away from acting but has remained part of the film's history through interviews, reunions, and fan events.
