Where it belongs

Continuity & connections

A direct continuation of the 1974 premise that sets aside the earlier sequel chain. Leatherface (2017) supplies a prequel within this Sawyer-oriented branch. The film’s age and date implications are not fully tidy.

Inside this dossier

Heather’s inheritance and divided loyalties

Heather’s inheritance draws a new group of young travelers to Texas. What first appears to be a familiar encounter with a threatening property develops into a conflict over ancestry, concealment, and revenge.

A new continuation with returning faces

Lionsgate’s early announcement positioned the project as a return to the original film’s story. John Luessenhop directed, with Alexandra Daddario playing Heather and Dan Yeager taking on Leatherface.

John Frizzell and the 3D chapter

John Frizzell composed the score. This production begins the composer connection that continues into Leatherface (2017), giving the Sawyer-inheritance branch a link behind the camera as well as within its fiction.

The 2013 restart

Texas Chainsaw 3D opened in the United States in January 2013. Its title can also appear without the ‘3D’ suffix on some presentations, so title variation alone does not identify a different film.
