The final road sequence
Ed Guinn’s truck driver encounters Sally as Leatherface chases her down the road. He stops to help, shelters her briefly in the cab, and then realizes the danger closing in on them.
The driver finds a wrench on the floorboard and throws it at Leatherface. The prop wrench was made from balsa wood. Leatherface falls and cuts his leg with the saw, while Sally and the driver continue running in opposite directions.

The truck survives
These photographs were taken in March 2011 after the photographer encountered the original truck by chance. A source close to the vehicle confirmed its production history and that the owner was aware of its connection to the film.
The truck was resting on private property near San Marcos beneath a metal roof that protected it from direct sun and rain. The trailer used in the film was no longer attached, and attempts to document the vehicle identification number were unsuccessful.
The leg prosthesis visible in several photographs is not connected to the production; it was added later by the owner. The exact location and ownership remain private to protect both the vehicle and the people who supplied the images.
