Lionsgate’s early announcement positioned the project as a return to the original film’s story. John Luessenhop directed, with Alexandra Daddario playing Heather and Dan Yeager taking on Leatherface.
The production also invited several earlier franchise performers back in different capacities. Bill Moseley plays Drayton rather than Chop Top; Gunnar Hansen appears as Boss Sawyer rather than Leatherface; Marilyn Burns plays Verna. John Dugan again appears as Grandpa.
Those returning actors are an important part of the production’s relationship to fan memory, but actor continuity and character continuity are not the same thing. The individual people and character records preserve both identities so readers can follow the connections without confusing the roles.
Lionsgate’s 2011 announcement documents the project before release. Its language is evidence of the studio’s intended continuation of the 1974 story, not an independent review.
A Lionsgate casting announcement preserved as a PDF by the City of Mansfield. This is useful production-era documentation of the ensemble and returning franchise participants.
A press-day interview about approaching Leatherface and performing behind the mask. This source focuses on the actor’s choices rather than only the film’s plot.
