Jeff Burr directed from a David J. Schow screenplay during the franchise’s New Line chapter. The ensemble includes Kate Hodge, William Butler, Ken Foree, Viggo Mortensen, and R. A. Mihailoff as Leatherface.
Burr’s retrospective interviews are particularly useful because the production and release process cannot be understood from the theatrical film alone. His Warner Archive podcast provides a direct audio account to compare with written interviews and release documentation.
Mihailoff’s interviews address the physical side of the role and his performance background. Hodge’s conversation supplies a different perspective from within the central traveling pair. Reading these together avoids reducing the production history to the mask or its marketing campaign.
